Inside: Do you enjoy shopping at resale consignment shops? They are the perfect place to support recycling and lower your carbon footprint. One of my favorites is Me ‘n Mommy to Be: Kids Resale. It’s loaded with everything you need for kids and the mom-to-be! Read all about it and learn why recycling is important
Resale Consignment Shops & Supporting the Environment
Today, most people are consciously aware of the importance of helping to save the planet. Every action—large and small—helps protect our world and keeps our carbon footprint to a minimum.
There are many ways to save the planet and one BIG way is supporting resale consignment shops. Plus, it’s loads of fun! I should know—I’ve been thrifting for over 20 years. My inspiration came from my paternal and maternal grandparents. For them, thrifting was a way of life. Their motto was, “waste not, want not.” Everything was recycled. They turned flour and cornmeal sacks, old clothing, etc., into quilts. If something broke—it was fixed or refashioned into something else that was useable. What they outgrew was given to neighbors. Very little was thrown out.
By definition, a “thrifter” is a person who supports resale consignment shops by purchasing, donating, or selling to the store preloved clothing, furniture, dishes, toys, gear, outdoor equipment, and more.
Here are some reasons to support resale consignment shops:
- Recycled items reduce waste
- It helps the environment and lowers our carbon footprint
- Supports the community—many resale consignment shops are non-profit and offer jobs to people who need them
- Recycling clothes helps reduce pollution associated with the fashion industry
- Kids grow out of clothes and toys so purchasing these preloved items at resale consignment shops allows you to put the money you save into giving them lessons such as, art, music, sports, etc.
Recycled clothes help our environment in a HUGE way. Consider this:
According to Business Insider, “Apparel and footwear production is responsible for anywhere between 4 and 8.6 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. This carbon footprint is larger than the highly emitting aviation industry.”
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) reports that the equivalent of one garbage truck full of clothes is burned or dumped in a landfill every second. And that 60 percent of all materials used by the fashion industry are made from plastic which releases 500,000 tons of microfibers into the ocean each year.
Sadly, only 15 percent of clothing is recycled or donated and the rest goes directly into landfills or is incinerated.
Me ‘n Mommy to Be: Kids Resale Shop
We can change this needless waste by recycling and supporting resale consignment shops. If you’re a mom, a mom-to-be, or a grandparent, one of my favorite shops to purchase preloved children’s items is: Me ‘n Mommy to Be: Kids Resale
They have two locations—Las Vegas, Nevada, and Des Moines, Iowa.
They ship nationwide (shipping is free for orders over $125) and offer free in-store pick-up where your items are ready in less than an hour.
Amazing Children’s Items at Me ‘n Mommy to Be
Preloved items sold at Me ‘n Mommy to Be are in excellent condition. They carefully and meticulously inspect each piece before offering it to the public.
Everything they carry for children and expecting moms is neatly organized into 7 different categories and include the following:
Clothing
Boy’s and girl’s clothing ranges in size from preemie to size 10-14. They also offer maternity clothing in different sizes. And remember—children’s resale consignment shops are a treasure trove for parents AND grandparents alike.
When our grandkids come to visit, we garden, go on nature walks, cook and bake in the kitchen, play in the dirt, create mudpies in the mud kitchen, and many other things. And they get dirty. I purchase a few play clothes at resale consignment shops that my grandkids wear when we’re doing messy activities. It makes life a lot easier!
Shoes
Footwear is available for boys, girls, infants in sizes toddler and youth
Equipment
This is an amazing section offering
- Bassinets
- Car seats
- Strollers
- Swings
- Bouncers
- Feeding seats
- Furniture
- Gates
- Play Yards
- Backpacks, etc.
Again—grandparents—these items are not just for parents to purchase. If you plan to have your grandkids visit—you’ll need some of these things—especially for overnight visits. I have 14 grandchildren and purchased all the items I would need for them at resale consignment shops. When they grow out of things, I donate or sell them back to consignment stores. It’s much easier than hauling things back and forth each time grandkids visit. And it gives you another opportunity to recycle and support resale consignment shops.
Gear
This section includes items such as:
- Carriers
- Diaper bags
- Bath/potty
- Monitors/Sound Machines
- Feeding supplies
- Bedding/Décor
- Activity Gym

Toys
Me ‘n Mommy to Be carries a wide variety of preloved toys and games appropriate for all different ages of children. When your children/grandchildren are young, they don’t need an endless supply of new toys. It makes sense to purchase good-quality used toys whenever possible.
Part of parenting and grandparenting is playing with your kids/grandkids. You’ll need toys, games, and puzzles to help foster fun play activities and resale consignment shops are great places to find them. And when they’ve grown out of those preloved toys—donate or sell them back to the consignment store.
Suggestion: check back daily at the Me ‘n Mommy to Be website to see their offering of toys—then quickly order them before someone else snatches them up. Plus, shopping their online store is easier than driving from thrift store to thrift store (and you’re saving gas).
Books
Preloved children’s books are a favorite of mine! If you want to raise smart kids who know how to “think”—you want to build your children’s library and create a book-reading nook in your home. One of the best places to purchase preloved books is Me ‘n Mommy to Be. They offer an amazing selection of children’s books—including books for the new mom.
Most of their books are “one of a kind” so check their website often for new selections of children’s books.
Seasonal
