💙VALENTINE’S DAY WINTER NATURE ORNAMENTS 🩷This week—more Valentine’s Day Activities from the past! 💙Combine Valentine’s Day with nature—for a fun & beautiful experience! 🩷Use a square tin (Martha Stewart) and supply your kids/grandkids with natural things—cranberries, winter fruits such as oranges and grapefruit, branches from pine trees; add some felt Valentines, sequins, and string. Have them arrange all these things in each tin pocket. 💙Pour water over everything, freeze, pop out of the tin, and hang your Valentine’s Day ornaments on a favorite tree in your yard. 💜DRINKING STRAW HEARTS 🩷At Christmas, we used drinking straws to create ornaments—this time we’re using Valentine’s drinking straws to create colorful hearts! 💜This can be a mathematical project—depending on how you do it.
For the older 2 grandkids (8 & 9)—I gave them a ruler and had them figure out the length of each straw (22 in all for the project). 💜SPIN YOUR HEART OUT VALENTINE’S DAY CARDS 🩷Have you ever tried painting using a salad spinner? Spin art is fun, easy, and minimally messy. And kids and grandkids LOVE doing this! 💜You need hearts cut out from different colors of poster board; acrylic paints—and a strong arm!
Put the heart inside the salad spinner. Squirt paint dots on the hearts (in Valentine's colors), and then spin, spin, spin! The colors will shoot everywhere, creating a unique design on the heart. 🩷Take the hearts and make a Valentine Garden card—glue Valentine drinking straws for the stem and glue on a piece of cardstock. 💜Last, have your kids/grandkids write a note to their parents; attach it to the back with a ribbon & you’re done! 🩷Result—a beautiful handmade Valentine for parents, grandparents, or friends! 💜Details & more here: https://goodparentingbrighterchildren.com/valentines-day-activities-for-kids/

💜HANDPRINT HEART TREES 🩷The creative possibilities are endless when it comes to a child’s handprint! ❤This time—it’s all about Valentine’s trees. 💜Their handprint is the tree trunk—and the Valentine stickers are “leaves.” 🩷Trace your kids/grandkids’ hands on a piece of colored cardstock of their choice. 💙FROZEN SOAP BUBBLES: FUN STEM PROJECT TO CELEBRATE WINTER & VALENTINE’S! 🩷Have you ever taken your kids or grandkids out in cold freezing temperatures and blown soap bubbles? Did you notice the bubbles will freeze if the temperatures are cold enough? 💙Bubbles are made of soap and soap freezes at about 12 degrees Fahrenheit. The middle layer of the water bubble freezes creating a frozen bubble. 🩷Our temperatures were between 15 and 20 degrees, so the bubbles the grandkids created lasted for a few seconds but didn’t completely freeze. 💙Here’s a tip: put your bubble solution outside overnight to get it really cold. The next day, blow the bubbles—and watch the fun. The bubbles will perch on your shoulder, on the grass, on the opening of the bubble bottle & more—science at work! 🩷PS: You can even take pictures with your kids/grandkids staring at you from inside their bubbles! 💙A novel way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! 🩷PS: I recently read about a woman in Denver with freezing cold temperatures and made several soap bubbles around her yard! (yes, it was November)! 🩷For this project, you need acrylic paints, wooden hearts, buttons, and jewels in red, pink, purple, and white. 💜Paint the hearts. Let dry. ❤VALENTINE’S DAY ADVENT CALENDAR (a rerun from the past) 🩷Who said you can only have advent calendars in December? ❤Anticipation of upcoming holidays makes everything more exciting for kids & grandkids—so switch things up a bit and make an advent calendar for Valentine’s Day! You still have time—February 1 is 13 days away—plenty of time to make this! 🩷You need toilet paper rolls, numbers 1-14, candy, trinkets, slime, etc. to fill the pockets, poster board, and cardboard to paste everything onto. ❤The grandkids’ contribution was painting all the toilet paper roll pockets. My contribution was assembling and filling the pockets. 🩷If you’re pressed for time—just grab some cute red or pink paper bags and glue them on a piece of cardboard with numbers on each bag and fill them with goodies. ❤BUILDING A POSTERITY IN THE NEW YEAR & CREATING

❤BUILDING A POSTERITY IN THE NEW YEAR & CREATING LIFELONG MEMORIES. 💙On January 1, 2024, I wrote my goals for the year. Many did not come to fruition.
💚First—I was certain after dealing with long-haul Covid for 3+ years—that my 4th year would be my “banner year for health”. Wrong—sicker than ever and landed in the ER 5x in the middle of the night. 💜Second—only wrote 5 new blogs the entire year—too sick! 💛But there was ONE thing I did accomplish—a gift to 6 of my little grandkids who have visited our house regularly for the last 4 years—creating memories with grandma and grandpa. ❤To cement 4-years of memories, I created photo journals for each of them. Memories they can remember and later share with their children and grandchildren. And (at the same time) never forget how much their grandparents love them. 💙Not an easy task—I had to organize 5,000 pictures into 6 folders. I investigated 6 different professional photo album companies and finally decided to use forever.com. Why? Because I could write text on the pages. I didn’t just want a photo album—I wanted the text to imprint the memory—a photo journal. 💚At our Family Christmas Celebration, each grandchild received his/her book. They have been asking for photo books for 4 years—and now have them. ❤Christmas Traditions! 💚At Christmastime, we celebrate 45 different traditions—some borrowed from our ancestors and some from friends. ❤This is one—books and chocolate! 💚What are your family’s favorite Christmas traditions?

❤GRINCH DECORATIONS FOR 2024 💚The video (which my husband made) shows some of our Grinch decorations. Here are some of the changes I made from last year’s decorations: ❤#1: Tablecloth—(Target). It’s white with diagonal red stripes and scalloped edges in green. 💚#2: Grinch Trees (Hobby Lobby). I tried purchasing a Grinch tree last year that would fit the center of the table—they were either too big, too scrawny, or too expensive. I got this Grinch tree in October—60% off at Hobby Lobby & easy to store. ❤#3: Favors: (Costco) Little Grinch tins filled with packages of hot cocoa. Big hit! 💚#4: Black Reindeer: (Walmart) Black seems to be the new “red” for Christmas this year so I got 4 black metal reindeer with LED lights for the center of the table. ❤#5: Grinch socks (HomeGoods). Everyone got Grinch socks. 💚Everything else—plates, cups, napkins, aprons, wooden Grinch decorations, little trees, lights, banners, etc., were the same as last year. ❤What I forgot—the balloons. I had them but with everything going on, I forgot to get helium in them.
💚Suggestion—if you want to have a Grinch party with your kids/grandkids next year—I’d look for things early. Grinch stuff goes fast. And, think about storage.

💚GRINCH GAMES—BOUNCY PADDLE BALL, BINGO & COLORING COOKIES ❤When I was a kid we loved those wooden paddles with a small rubber ball attached to it that you tried to hit the ball with the paddle. Remember those? The grandkids loved them! Pretty decent hand/eye coordination (I’m still working on my hand/eye coordination). 💚We also played 2 repeat games from last year—Grinch Bingo with Grinch Candy Kisses for prizes and they colored sugar cookies with edible pens. The sugar cookies come in a Grinch theme—but they needed to be ordered and I ran out of time. Next year…

❤DRAWING A GRINCH FACE AT OUR GRINCH PARTY. 💚Part of the NEW activities for our Grinch party was to draw a Grinch face. I downloaded the step-by-step instructions from @artprojectsforkids. (I love her site—just recently purchased her mini-mural packet for Christmas) ❤I encouraged the kids to be creative and use colors different from what everyone expects the Grinch to look like. 💚This is what we ended up with—colorful unique Grinches! ❤If you want your kids/grandkids to learn sequencing as they draw, I highly suggest the @artprojectsforkids website—her stuff is fabulous!
