🖤HALLOWEEN TABLE FIT FOR ITSY-BITSY GOBLINS! 🧡I love decorating for different holidays! It adds to the enjoyment and fun! 🖤So, here is our decorated Halloween table—BEFORE we all sat down and created food chaos at our Family Halloween Party! 🧡I purchased the Halloween plates and cloth napkins at HomeGoods. The glass cups with skeleton hands from the Dollar Store and mini-tin cups to hold Halloween candy favors. 🖤Our centerpiece included Halloween lights lined with the dot pumpkins the grandkids made a few weeks ago. 🧡Halloween Memories 2023!

🖤PASTA SKELETONS 💜Grab some black paper, different kinds of pasta, glue, and fluorescent markers, and make these cute Halloween skeletons! 🖤@artprojectsforkids posted these cute skeletons glued on popsicle sticks which was more of a monochromatic approach. 💜We wanted color so we changed them up a bit and used black paper and fluorescent dauber markers—the result being bright skeletons that glowed in the dark! 🖤Have you made pasta skeletons before?

🖤BOBBING FOR APPLES 🧡Did you bob-for-apples as a kid? I did! And I loved it—water in my face and all! 🖤So, we added this fun game to our Halloween festivities. It took a couple of minutes for the kids to get the hang of what they were doing—and to aim for grabbing the apple stem with their teeth. 🧡The youngest grandkids (2 & 3-years-old) eventually gave up and just grabbed an apple with their hands. 🖤What’s been your experience bobbing for apples?

🖤FINGERNAIL POLISH DIPPED PUMPKINS –DO THIS AT YOUR NEXT HALLOWEEN PARTY! 💜A few years ago, we dipped small Styrofoam pumpkins into fingernail polish to make pumpkin bouquets. 🧡This year we used LARGE Styrofoam pumpkins that we dipped into fingernail polish! 🖤The result was truly spectacular! 💜I found these pumpkins at the Dollar Store and stuck a skewer at the top so the grandkids had something to hold onto when they dipped their pumpkin. 🧡Do this outside—grab a tub and fill it with warm water. Next, pour different colors of Halloween nail polish into the water. Stir the colors gently. Then dip your pumpkin ½ way up in the water and watch it “grab” the nail polish colors! 🖤To dry—poke your skewered pumpkin in the lawn for about 30 minutes. 💜FYI: we went through 12 bottles of nail polish. Each pumpkin “grabbed” all the polish in the tub so we had to replenish nail polish after each pumpkin dip. 🧡These turned out so colorful—and the “hit” of our Halloween party!

We haven’t celebrated Halloween 2024…yet—we’re getting ready this weekend! 💜Our party included 15 family members—including grandkids from the East and West coasts. As the saying goes— “The more the merrier!” 🧡First—let’s make a Halloween necklace! 🖤Easy to make—order Halloween beads on Amazon (especially the ones with eyeballs) and string them on a sturdy plastic string. 💜Don’t forget to make pompoms to decorate the ends of each necklace. 🧡Do you know the history of pompoms? Since the dawn of time, pompoms have acted as protective charms—warding off evil from the children or adults who wear them. 🖤The grandkids’ cute pompoms at the ends of their necklaces warded off nasty little Halloween spooks! 💜Ever make Halloween necklaces? 🖤HALLOWEEN BOOKS 💜One of the things that makes Halloween (and every other holiday) so amazing—are the children’s books we read to our kids & grandkids. 🧡A favorite? “Miss Smith and the Haunted Library” by Michael Garland. It’s to “die” for! 💜It features famous goblins and other scary creatures from children’s literature that pop out of the book as the librarian reads it. Plus, the author has a guide at the end to tell you where all these spooks come from. 🧡HALLOWEEN SENSORY FUN---DIGGING IN JELL-O FOR HALLOWEEN PARAPHERNALIA! 🖤This is a re-run from last year that our grandkids had such fun doing, we repeated it this year! 💜You need Jell-O, Halloween doo-dads (Dollar Store), spoons, or kid-size tweezers—that’s it! 🧡Make up the Jell-O—one dish per child, and when the Jell-O is melted, add all the Halloween paraphernalia & set in the fridge. 🧡MAKING & BAKING COLOR FLOW HALLOWEEN COOKIES! 🖤My husband took cake decorating classes in the 80s—and won awards for his cakes. Forty-plus years later, he’s honing his cookie-decorating skills. 💜We’ve done all kinds of cookie decorating with our grandkids—regular frosting, bags of frosting, and different ways of decorating. 🧡This time, we attempted to teach them color flow—which is a bit trickier. 🖤These pictures are cookies the grandkids did—not perfect but not too bad for their first try. We took them one by one to show them each step individually. 💜WARNING: To be honest, I’m not a fan of color-flow frosting. Cookies made from color-flow frosting usually turn out darling, but the frosting gets as hard as cement. 🧡HALLOWEEN HAUNTED HOUSES 🖤Last year, I purchased ready-to-make Halloween haunted houses at $15/each. This year I opted to go less expensive because the store-bought variety was too big for the grandkids to complete. 🧡You make these by “gluing” graham crackers together with melted sugar. 🖤Then give your kids/grandkids (even a 2-year-old can do this) lots of things to decorate their houses with—including plastic construction pieces in Halloween colors. 🧡These were TOTALLY decorated by the kids, and they didn’t want any input from us—including when they decided to frost over the front door! 🖤PS: If you see any black teeth or faces in these pictures it’s because the kids were licking the black frosting as they decorated their houses—oops! 🧡Details: https://goodparentingbrighterchildren.com/fun-things-to-do-on-halloween/ For IG the link is in the bio

Even my teenage granddaughter joined in the fun! 🧡Such a fun, dramatic, and colorful way to make a black Halloween cat! ❤JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH BY ROALD DAHL 💜Do you know about Roald Dahl’s other “famous” book— “James and the Giant Peach?” ❤James Trotter’s parents get eaten by a wild rhinoceros so he’s sent to live with his two nasty aunts. One day he accidentally drops some magic crystals by the old peach tree—and strange things start to happen. One of the peaches grows to the size of a house and so do 3 insects—Grasshopper, Centipede, and Ladybug! 💜It takes just a snip of the stem and the peach rolls away and the adventure begins! ❤When I read this chapter book to my sons (and we read it several times)—we made peach cobbler (a recipe from my grandmother—recipe on post); peach ice cream, and slathered peach jam on our toast! 💜We also discussed important lessons learned from the book.
